Special friends

Okay it is an obsession of M's, she has to rescue the worms when it rains. This morning on our way to the car she was picking up all the worms that were in the parking lot and putting them in the grass. She requested that I be very careful and I not step on them or drive over them. (A few weeks ago she was very distraught when we pulled in and there was a worm that was run-over; she mourned the loss of her special friend for 30 minutes, big huge crocodile tears.) Today I picked her up from school and her teacher tells me about the events of the day. At Visual Spatial (Art) today the teachers brought in their lizard, they were explaining what it ate; crickets and worms. M gasped "not my special friends!" Mrs. C explained that was part of his diet and it was okay, "but not my friends!" M finally backed down and said that she thought it would be okay if he ate a few of them. Mrs. G said she was going to remember that forever. M rescued another "special friend" when we got home and was sad about all the other worms that died. What a big heart!

where have I been???

Okay we had Spring Break last week and I headed on a roadtrip with the kids to visit Marnie. I was feeling the urge to drive and keep on driving. Hey I was on I-80 and thought I could just keep going. The only thing that stopped me was that I would have had to drive back at some point.

Questions

M has been asking me funny questions recently. She asked me on our ride home from school, "why do we have red lights?" I responded with a little bit of education about traffic.....doing the typical mom thing, thinking she really wanted an answer but she was wanting to inform me that she knew what they were for...M says "no mom it is so our foot can have a break."

getting so big

Easter/Birthday dress

Finally got around to taking pictures of the dress I made for M for Easter and her birthday. With the left over fabric I was able to make a coordinating dress for her new doll Gwyneth (Gwynna for short, that is what M says anyway.) I have had this pattern since before I had kids. My mom and I were trying to date when I bought it and it was at least 7 years ago. It was fun to finally get to use the pattern. M was not in the most cooperative mood so I had to take what pictures I could. I have many of the pouting. She is definetly a moody 4 year old.

the next in line

Yep it is official L loves Signing Time. The still pictures just don't do it justice. He was dancing around and kicking his feet to the Leah's Farm. M used to watch them all the time but since her Barbie princess movie collection that is all she wants to watch now. Though if Signing Time is on both of the older kids sing and sign.

Happy Birthday to Justin!

He is an old man ;)! We have been married for 10 years in June. Craziness, where did the time go? oh wait I know school, school and more school/training. I made yummy pancakes with mixed berries and whipcream to top it off. Justin made an incredible dinner as always. He made honeyglazed kabobs with pork, fresh pineapple, purple onion and red peppers. It was divine. There was a little hitch in the grilling part. On Sunday we used the grill and had to remove a mouse nest, then in just 2 days there was another nest and this time full of babies. Serious moral dilemna...we would set out traps for adults in our house but why do we feel so different about removing the babies??? We debated about what to do for about an hour, called neighbors to see if we could use their grill.... and then decided to remove the nest and put it in the grove of trees to the side of us. mmm I keep thinking about the kabobs. I think it will be a weekly menu item for us.

6 months old!

I can't believe it! Where did the time go. I thought I would be pregnant forever and now look L is 6 months old. He is a crazy man, grabbing everything and sticking it in his mouth. He freaks out if he drops something and it is out of reach. He is obsessed with anything that makes a crinkling noise, granola bar wrappers are his favorite and he has found his voice.

Happy 4th Birthday!

I am glad to not be where I was 4 years ago. It is amazing how much M has grown. I find myself staring at her all the time. We had a wonderful day. I hardly took any pictures but another day. I did get some of M blowing out her candles and the cake of course. M was quite the social butterfly on the phone today. She was more the willing to talk to everyone. I was amazed. She also read 2 books to Gma Jodi. M received Brown Bear, Brown Bear and Polar Bear, Polar Bear and The very hungry caterpillar. They were reading them at school and she was reciting them from memory last week. I realized that I didn't even have copies of them... GASP! She is so proud of herself and will grab any listening ear to sit down with her and listen to her read. We have it on video too. If you don't know what a Water Buffalope is or a Whipping Cream (Whooping Crane), just come to our house and M can explain it all.
M has been telling everyone today, "my parents are the Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny isn't real it is just a costume and my mom and dad have one." (I don't know where she came up with that except for her older brother.) A was I guess acting in the typical almost 7 phase. "I didn't get anything I wanted." I hope the attitude adjustment comes quickly. It sure makes me not want to do anything nice for him.

curse Martha Stewart..

Okay maybe it isn't just Martha Stewart but this unreal expectation I set up for myself around holidays. I want everything perfect and picture perfect which usually leads to me stressing out and then bagging things all together because they aren't exactly the way I want it. ......take a deep cleansing breath....... When is my life ever picture perfect...LOL. We will be doing a small easter egg hunt in the morning. I have the kids outfits mostly ready for tomorrow. (I need to finish some touches on Maddie's dress, and hopefully after bed I can make her new doll a dress to match....we will see how ambitious I get tonight.) I really want to get the sewing machine mess off of my kitchen table. Especially because we will be dying eggs tomorrow. Finally after many years of not doing it and collecting many easter dying kits on clearance we will use them. Any leftovers will be going in the trash.
